During a time of uncertainty, supporters made possible an exemplary year of impact through philanthropy.

 

$15.5 MILLION GIFT-IN-KIND to acquire a 108,165-square-foot advanced research facility as part of the merger with the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies in Port St. Lucie, Florida. It will enhance FIU’s research in chemistry and chemical biology and accelerate translational medicinal chemistry and chemical biology research, drug discovery, and basic research leading to the cure of diseases.

$10 MILLION NAMING GIFT from Dr. Herbert and Nicole Wertheim to the FIU School of Music, part of the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts. The gift, which will establish several new programs that will elevate the school’s global distinction and identity, is the largest ever made to a music school in the State University System of Florida.

$5 MILLION from Bacardi USA for a new and unique educational program tailored for the spirits industry at the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management. The gift created the Bacardi Center of Excellence, which will position the school as a leader in beverage management education and partner with one of the world’s most historic, leading spirits companies.

$1.6 MILLION from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to expand support to humanities students who transfer from Miami Dade College to FIU, as well as strengthen faculty and staff collaborations. The grant funds The Humanities Edge, a program that creates a rich academic experience to help students maintain an interest in the humanities while supporting their transition to the university.

$1 MILLION from Baptist Health South Florida in support of the Green Family Foundation Neighborhood Health Education Learning Program (NeighborhoodHELP), the innovative platform for the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine’s community-engaged mission emphasizing social accountability and interprofessional household centered care.

$1 MILLION PLANNED GIFT from alumna and professional golf legend Pat Bradley ’74, World Golf Hall of Fame inductee and two-time LPGA Player of the Year, for athletic scholarships.

$1 MILLION campaign launched for the Deloitte Foundation-Sabater Endowed Scholars Program at FIU’s College of Business, which will provide FIU business students with financial support in addition to training and mentoring opportunities in the accounting field.

$900,000 from the Helios Education Foundation to establish the Helios Last Mile Scholarship program, which bolsters seniors by providing gap grants and access to financial wellness coaching. The program is expected to benefit more than 700 FIU students.

$500,000 from business and civic leader Antonio “Tony” Argiz ’74 and his wife, Concepcion “Conchi” Argiz ’75, to establish the Argiz Family Eminent Scholarship Endowment, which will provide full-tuition support for top students in the School of Accounting.

$200,000 PLANNED GIFT from Dean Antony Page of the FIU College of Law to establish a scholarship for law students who are among the first generation in their families to attend college.
