Eric '86 & Sandi '89 Maldonado

Husband and Wife Alumni Fund Global Scholars Program

Eric ’86 and Sandi ’89 Maldonado may be New York residents now, but they have always credited their alma mater in Miami as a significant stepping-stone on their journey to success.

Eric, Managing Director/Global Head of Processing Sales for Markit, explained, “As FIU graduates, Sandi and I benefited greatly from our lessons both in and outside of the classroom. Miami is a second home to us. We’ve been fortunate and welcome the opportunity to participate in the growth and development of students who are learning at FIU and looking to explore a global career like we did.”

This dedication to FIU is evident with their recent gift to establish the Eric and Sandi Maldonado Global Scholars Program in the College of Business. The program provides FIU students interested in financial services, entrepreneurship, technology and sales the prestigious opportunity to begin their career paths in the world’s leading financial hubs. The initiative allows students to participate in experiences not typically available to them until after graduation – giving them a significant head start.

“We hope the scholarship will have a profound impact on a student’s life choices,” Sandi said. “The scholars program will allow students to interact and learn from some of the leading corporations around the globe.”

Sandi describes FIU’s College of Business as South Florida’s most important business education resource, especially as a recognized leader in international business education. Its location in Miami blends the advantages of a multicultural, urban and ethnically rich center. The Maldonado’s both see the city as a business hub – connecting the two Americas and serving as regional headquarters for numerous multinational corporations.

“Many of the students we want to help may not immediately have the connections we had,” said Eric. “This is an opportunity to increase their network and visibility in the market. We hope it guides their decision-making as they graduate and consider career options.”
